Carnegie Hall favorite and star of the New York Metropolitan Opera, Janet Hopkins will join the Riverside Lyric Opera for their latest production, a double bill of Gianni Schicchi and Cavalleria Rusticana. Composed by Puccini and Mascagni respectively, these one-acts are among the most beloved and charming pieces in the operatic canon. The equally charming (not to say beloved) Hopkins will play the lead role of Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana. A former Palm Springs area resident, the famed mezzo-soprano toured with The Met for more than 16 years, earning encores from audiences and rave reviews from The New York Times and USA Today. Dr. Stephen Tucker conducts an excellent cast of singers for both operas at the First Congregational Church of Riverside.
