The purpose of this event is to educate Torontian’s through meaningful, positive and fun engagement.
This is an all-day event taking place in the heart of downtown's hub – the Yonge and Dundas Square. From 10:00am onwards, SYF will be celebrating Sikh Awareness at the Square through a variety of activities. "Langar", is the concept of "free kitchen" and is a regular practice in Sikh institutions of worship (Gurudwaras). Langar symbolizes equality of all as everyone sits on the floor together to eat a vegetarian meal regardless of background. Free Langar will be distributed to all who attend. There will also be numerous Sikh Martial Arts or "Gatka" demonstrations, as well as art demonstrations.
The SYF will also have on site, 10,000m of Dastaar (Turban) material which will be used for turban tying for anyone who wishes to tie one that day. The event is free of cost.
