"American Night: The Ballad of Juan José"

L.A. Theatre Works presents American Night: The Ballad of Juan José from the acclaimed, Los Angeles-based Chicano/Latino performance troupe Culture Clash (The Mission, Water & Power, Zorro in Hell). Written by Richard Montoya and directed by Shana Cooper, American Night finds Juan José feverishly studying for his upcoming U.S. citizenship exam. Then, in a series of hallucinogenic vignettes, he starts participating in pivotal moments in American history and key figures, from Teddy Roosevelt to Bob Dylan, are popping in to offer their hilarious brand of help. American Night makes for a provocative, irreverent comedy about this country’s shared past. This production includes Montoya, as well as Culture Clash member Herbert Siguenza, along with Tom Virtue (Iron Man 3), Kimberly Scott (Medium) and Keith Jefferson (Django Unchained). Please note that this production is done without sets or costumes for later broadcast on public radio nationwide.
