Fountain Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)
Today’s August Wilson, the Tennessee Williams of the Millennials, is a young playwright named Tarell Alvin McCraney. A member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Co. and a MacArthur “Genius Grant” winner, McCraney is just 33 years old and already the author of plays destined to remain in the theatrical repertory for decades — starting with his trilogy, The Brother/Sister Plays. Now, following their acclaimed production of the trilogy’s first play, In the Red and Brown Water, Fountain Theatre stages the second piece, The Brothers Size. Coming home to the Louisiana bayous, the Size brothers strive for a fresh start. But as the brothers struggle to find a new sense of freedom, they will wrestle with issues of sexuality, coming of age, and the bonds of family. Director Shirley Jo Finney returns to direct this Los Angeles premiere.
