On city streets around the world, there’s an invisible army of talented musicians playing their hearts out, but they don’t have record deals or play world tours like mainstream artists. Unless you stumbled across their corner, you might never hear them play … until now. In 2009 a musical compilation video of the song “Stand by Me” played by street musicians from around the world went viral on YouTube. Out of that phenomenon came the Playing for Change band, who aim to break down social barriers and promote a peaceful world view by bringing musicians together and bringing their music to the world. Their music showcase, Songs Around the World, established a forum for street musicians from around the globe and landed at No. 10 on Billboard’s Top 200 Pop chart. This special live concert from the Playing for Change project features musicians from the U.S., Europe, Africa, Israel, Japan and Cuba.
