The Matrix Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)

"Holding the Man"

One of the most successful plays in recent Australian theater, Holding the Man brings Timothy Conigrave’s funny and poignant memoir of a long-term gay relationship to the stage. The story opens at an all-boys school in 1970s Melbourne, where young Tim struggles with his crush on John, the captain of the football team. Despite the odds, Tim and John fall in love and for 15 years their relationship survives everything life throws at it — discrimination, jealousy, loss — until the only problem love can’t solve threatens to tear them apart. Conigrave’s memoir won the 1995 United Nations Human Rights Award for Non-Fiction and was adapted for the stage by acclaimed playwright Tommy Murphy. Now, after multiple sold-out seasons in Australia and a successful West End Premiere in London, Holding The Man is finally coming to Los Angeles.
