Hip-Hop Tragedy Dreamscape Shares True Story of Teen Shooting
Los Angeles Theatre Center (Los Angeles, CA)

Using beatboxing, spoken word and dance, Dreamscape reimagines the true story of a fatal 1998 Riverside police shooting of a young girl through the powerful lens of hip-hop theater. Two actors portray the inner life and death of 19-year-old Myeisha Mills. As 12 bullets rip through her body, Myeisha shares the memories of her life — “the pleasures of softball, food, movies, kissing” — with humor, beauty and pitch-perfect hip-hop rhyme. This innovative theatrical piece is a product of Hindsight Studio Productions, a company founded to create new works using elements of DJing, breakdancing and graffiti as well as the aesthetics of hip-hop culture as the means of storytelling.
