The world’s most prestigious jazz competition returns to L.A., accompanied by an unbelievable lineup of jazz-loving stars in concert: Pharrell Williams, John Mayer, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Wayne Shorter, Queen Latifah, Don Cheadle, Taj Mahal, Dianne Reeves, Chaka Khan and tons more. Hosted by Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones and Kevin Spacey, the night kicks off with performances by the three sensational finalists of the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, judged by Quincy Jones, Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Owens, Ambrose Akinmusire, Randy Brecker and Arturo Sandoval. Then it’s the all-star gala concert with (in addition to those already mentioned) Dee Dee Bridgewater, Wayne Shorter, Jimmy Heath, Marcus Miller, Goldie Hawn (not performing), Kenny Burrell, Stefon Harris, T.S. Monk, Joshua Redman, Billy Childs, Melissa Aldana, Vinnie Colaiuta, James Genus, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Ben Williams and Kris Bowers. Proceeds from the event go toward free jazz education programs in public schools, provided by the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
