This year as we mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I, a war in which over 425,000 Canadians served overseas you are cordially invited to attend the annual Sikh Remembrance Day Ceremony at the historic location of the military grave of one of those Canadian soldiers – WWI hero Pvt. Buckam Singh.

Buckam Singh’s war medal and grave were discovered by SikhMuseum.com after having been forgotten for nearly a century. Buckam Singh’s grave is a unique historic site in Canada as it is the only military grave in Canada of a Sikh soldier from the World Wars. His war medal is the only known surviving military medal of a Sikh Canadian soldier from the World Wars

The Sikh Remembrance Day Ceremony has now become the largest annual gathering of Sikh soldiers and veterans in North America. This years ceremony takes place on Sunday November 9th from 2:00-3:30pm at Kitchener Mount Hope Cemetery.

The ceremony will be attended by members of the Canadian Forces, cadets, Sikh veterans, the general public as well as the Mayor-elect of Kitchener, Chief of Police, Parliamentary Secretary for Veterans Affairs, Federal Ministers, MP’s and MPP’s.

This ceremony allows Canadians the opportunity to appreciate the inclusive nature of our country and the sacrifices made by Canadian heroes from diverse backgrounds in making our nation strong and secure.
