Art Deco & Superheroes at the Egyptian Theatre, With Flash Gordon Screening
Egyptian Theatre (Hollywood, CA)

The future of the past looked super cool, and nowhere is that more evident than in Art Deco design. Full of striking geometric shapes and vivid colors, the Art Deco movement had a huge influence on early comics creators, giving us Flash Gordon’s shiny ship and Superman’s flowing cape. In the one-hour lecture Streamline Superheroes: Art Deco in Comics and Film, film writer Anna Marie Kelly will show how a design movement changed the way we think about heroes forever. The lecture will be followed by a screening of the 1936 movie Flash Gordon: Rocketship, where you can see theory in action.
