Catch a marathon of Belgian films that are up for Oscar consideration in the short film category. What these films lack in length they more than make up for in content, with entries that span drama, comedy and coming-of-age genres. You’ll see animated entries like Wouter Bongaerts’ Mia and A Panic Christmas, the follow-up to stop-motion Cannes hit A Town Called Panic. Things get serious in race-centric The Way of All Flesh. And child actors take top-billing in Sahim Omar Kalifa’s Baghdad Messi, the tale of a soccer-obsessed Iraqi boy and in Benoit De Clerck’s The Hunger, which follows three young beach-goers who witness more than they bargained for. These are just a few of the films included and all feature English subtitles. There will also be a discussion with filmmakers Bongaerts, De Clerck and Kalifa. This event is presented by the Consulate General of Belgium in Los Angeles will conclude with a complimentary Belgian beer reception.
