Organist-Composer Anthony Newman in Recital

The 10th anniversary celebration for the LA Phil’s magnificent pipe organ, fondly referred to as “Hurricane Mama,” rolls on with organist-conductor Anthony Newman at the keyboard. Newman’s not only a world-class performer, he’s also a noted composer, who’s set to debut two of his own new works, inspired by Stravinsky and Bach. He’ll also perform arrangements of a number of Baroque classics, along with pieces by Mozart and Purcell. A collaboration between architect Frank Gehry and L.A. organ designer Manuel Rosales, the organ itself has another nickname –“French Fries” — thanks to the distinctive look of its pipes.
