Suchi Branfman: "Groundswell"

Grappling with the suicide of a loved one is an immensely difficult experience, but it’s not something that has to happen in silence. Witness the work of poet Kathy Engel, who processes the death of her brother in Lost Brother Alphabet, a collaborative piece with movements choreographed by Suchi Branfman. The piece is part of the program Groundswell, which features several works by Branfman. Included are a solo that looks at police violence in the United States today through the lens of 1973 Chile and a mother-daughter duet devoted to a grandmother’s battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
