Traveling for the first time outside of Singapore, an exciting exhibition entitled The Lost Dhow: A Discovery from the Maritime Silk Route makes its North American premiere at Toronto’s Aga Khan Museum, starting December 13, 2014. The exhibition features a stunning array of rare Tang dynasty (618–907 CE) artifacts from a shipwrecked dhow (an ocean-going vessel) discovered off Belitung Island in the western Java Sea in 1998. Hundreds of rare items, including luxury wares, gold and silver objects, and ceramics dating back to ninth-century China, will be featured in the exhibition. Engaging programming — from an international symposium and a film series to performances by Silk Road–inspired musicians — will complement the exhibition.
Tickets for The Lost Dhow: A Discovery from the Maritime Silk Route are $15 for students and seniors, and $20 for adults.
