The James Bridges Theater (Los Angeles, CA)
A pocket calculator saved Curt Herzstark’s life. The Austrian engineer was placed in the brutal Buchenwald concentration camp during World War II, and exhausting outdoor work almost killed him before his captors reclassified him as an “intelligence-slave,” a protected class of prisoner with technical expertise. In the play Intelligence-Slave at Los Angeles’ James Bridges Theater, you’ll follow Herzstark’s struggle as he’s sent to an underground salt mine and begins experimenting on what would become one of the most important inventions of the 20th century. This play stars Joe Spano (Hill Street Blues, NCIS) and Josh Stamberg (Drop Dead Diva). There are no costumes or sets, and the performances will be recorded live for later broadcast on public and satellite radio.
