Vox Femina: "Forbidden Voices"

They say that well-behaved women seldom make history, and that could easily be the motto for Los Angeles’ Vox Femina, a nationally acclaimed all-female chorus with a goal of giving unheard women a voice through their performances. Forbidden Voices is a program of censored and unheard works that fit right in with Vox Femina’s repertoire. The evening begins with the second public performance of I Will Remember Everything, a new work based on the long-censored love poems of Russia’s first openly lesbian poet. The second half of the concert welcomes the Mira Costa Advanced Women’s Chorale, which will transport you to Italy with a series of music originally written to be played by residents of a Venetin orphanage and music school. Propriety goes out the window as Vox Femina redefines the word “forbidden” and celebrates the work of those who refused to conform.
