This Technicolor delight, starring Fred Astaire in the lead role of Tony Hunter, a washed-up Hollywood actor who tries to make a comeback by starring in a Broadway show, is one of the rare musicals to receive an Academy Award nomination for best screenplay. Costarring the gorgeous Cyd Charisse, written by the dream team of Comden and Green (who also wrote the film Singin’ in the Rain) and directed by Vincente Minnelli, the film brought us timeless standards like “By Myself,” “That’s Entertainment!” and “Dancing in the Dark.” Now’s your chance to see The Band Wagon at the beautiful Alex Theatre, a 1925 movie palace that’s a Glendale landmark.
