Wilshire United Methodist Church (Los Angeles, CA)
During rehearsals for the premiere of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, many of the musicians agreed the composer must’ve written the work in a drunken state. The premiere was a wild success, with Beethoven himself conducting, and his lively antics on the rostrum likely only increased that belief. Whether or not Beethoven was actually drunk is difficult to prove, and no orchestra knows such difficulties quite like the LA Lawyers Philharmonic and it chorus, Legal Voices. Made up of judges and attorneys, the LA Lawyers Phil will perform the second movement from Beethoven’s Seventh, as well as Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Borodin’s Polovetsian Dances and “Jupiter” from Holst’s The Planets. Also on the bill at Los Angeles’ Wilshire United Methodist Church are songs by Louis Armstrong, including “What a Wonderful World.”
