"Mana"

Distinguished Philippine dance company Kayamanan Ng Lahi celebrates its 25th anniversary year in the Aratani World Series. The troupe’s new program Mana will premiere in Little Tokyo’s Aratani Theatre, featuring Filipino-Americans Patrick Landeza on slack-key guitar and Abe Lagrimas Jr. on ukelele. In this new production, the dancers explore the ancestral ties between Filipino and Hawaiian culture. In the Philippines, “mana” refers to the precious things learned and inherited from ancestors and in Hawai’i, the word is linked to the spiritual energy that can exist in places, objects and people. Kayamanan Ng Lahi speaks to the shared spirit of mana that is within us all, defining and strengthening us as keepers of our heritage and culture.
