The Primitive Stage (Woodland Hills, CA)
Literary legend Truman Capote’s dark later years come to life in Tru, inspired by the writer’s words and works. Once the toast of the publishing world, by the ’70s the author of In Cold Blood was more known for his intoxicated talk show appearances than his writing. The week before Christmas in 1975, Capote finds himself shunned from his high-society friends after publishing an unflattering, thinly veiled portrait of them. Now he’s alone in his New York apartment, left to ponder his life, career and past mistakes with only booze, drugs and food to keep him company. The show’s original Broadway run won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding One-Person Show, while star Robert Morse (AMC’s Mad Men) picked up a Tony, plus an Emmy for the TV adaptation. Morse returns as a creative consultant for this production at The Primitive Stage in Woodland Hills.
