Valley Performing Arts Center – Great Hall (Northridge, CA)
Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars met and started playing music together in West African refugee camps after fleeing Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown during the nation’s decade-long civil war. Their sound is a unique fusion of traditional African music and roots reggae, inflected with New Orleans style. Their story was told in the hit documentary Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars, which was produced with support from Keith Richards, Paul McCartney, and Angelina Jolie. Since beginning their incredible journey, they’ve released four of the most acclaimed world music albums of the last decade. They’ve recorded and performed live with Aerosmith, and played at Bonnaroo, the Kennedy Center, the Montreal Jazz Festival, Summerstage in New York’s Central Park and more top gigs. The group’s performed on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, PBS, MTV and CBS Sunday Morning. See Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars bring their inspiring story and irresistible music to the Valley Performing Arts Center in Northridge.
