Improvised Opera The Discord Altar Sheds Light on Homelessness
Secret Rose Theatre (North Hollywood, CA)

Improvisation and opera aren’t two concepts normally associated with each other, but that’s just the exciting mix you get with The Discord Altar, part of OperaWorks’ Arts for Social Awareness Project. With a score improvised each night by the cast, this vibrant work tells the story of David, a homeless man who gave his fellow denizens of Skid Row voice lessons before succumbing to his substance addiction. Now the people whose lives David touched gather to remember him. Bringing this story to life through song are seven classically trained singer-actors, a pianist and a fusion sound-sculpture artist. See this intimate, socially conscious work at the Secret Rose Theatre in North Hollywood.
