Winner of Best Male Vocalist in NOW Magazine’s 2013 Readers Poll, Ori Dagan is a popular entertainer on the Toronto music scene. Initially trained as a classical pianist, Dagan dabbled in creative writing and musical theatre before discovering jazz in his late teens. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from York University with a focus on jazz vocals and classical voice, and went on to study performance, songwriting and improvisation at Humber College.
Dagan’s critically acclaimed recording debut, S’Cat Got My Tongue, established him as a musical adventurer within the standard jazz landscape, and in 2010 he won a CBC Radio competition that named him Canada’s Next Top Crooner. His sophomore CD effort, Less Than Three, includes fresh takes on Elton John, Elvis Presley, and Frank Sinatra, as well as “Googleable,” his original love song to the search engine. The recording earned him a nomination in the Best Jazz category at the Toronto Independent Music Awards.
