Pre Permian, May 8 – 29, reception May 9, 1 – 4 pm
“359 million years ago when swamps were emerging for the first time on earth, oxygen levels were at an all time high and algae, fungi and lichen grew with unfettered exuberance. I like to imagine these Pre Permian bogs pulsating with zany colours, complex and chaotic, in a landscape of intricate textures.
When I prepare my painting by pouring and fusing beeswax layer upon layer, my favourite part of the process is to deconstruct by gauging and peeling back the layers to reveal the dizzying mix of colour underneath. It is my personal phytopia”.
