Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)
More than 100 singers will come together at Walt Disney Concert Hall to lift their voices in celebration of composers Eric Whitacre and Arvo Pärt. Whitacre grew up in Nevada with no formal music training before college, then exploded onto the choral music scene in the new millennium with the release of his internationally acclaimed album Cloudburst. As a pioneer who embraced the artistic potential of social media, the Grammy-winning composer has created a phenomenon with his Virtual Choir series, layering audio from thousands of singers around the world into ecstatic online choral performances. Estonian-born minimalist composer Pärt developed his own pure musical style. His signature sound is a reflective, chant-like approach to composition that he calls “tintinnabuli,” more popularly referred to as “mystic minimalism.” What do the two men share in common? A sensuous love of the human voice and a boundless gift of harmonic imagination.
