"The History of Black Dance in America"

From Zulu to Lindy Hop with the Cakewalk, Foxtrot, Shim Sham and more historic dances in between, the Central Avenue Dance Ensemble returns to the stage after sold-out shows to present their live dance showcase, The History of Black Dance in America. Celebrating one of our nation’s most exuberant and electrifying cultural cornerstones, this performance features authentic renditions of African-American dances that date back from the late 1800s to today, backed by a multimedia experience featuring video and commentary. This 2015 installment of the popular show also observes the 150th anniversary of Juneteenth, the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.
