Explosive Love Story Begins in a Bar: Danny and the Deep Blue Sea
Los Angeles Theatre Center (Los Angeles, CA)

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley’s most famous play, Doubt: A Parable, was made into a movie starring Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Decades before that riveting work, he wowed critics with Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. Roberta, a divorced mother living with her parents, and a trucker named Danny strike up a conversation in a dark bar. The two lonely souls find solace in each other — but not without a fight (literally) in the play The New York Times called, “the equivalent of sitting at ringside watching a prize fight.” Wear your best ’80s attire and meet on the patio of the Los Angeles Theatre Center for a surprising, immersive production by The Latino Theater Company.
