Kiss Me, Kate is Cole Porter’s jazzy musical comedy about a former husband-and-wife acting team at war with each other while trying to stage a production of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Scenery-chewing director and actor Fred Graham and his ex-wife Lili Vanessi are a perfect portrayal of a “can’t live with them, can’t live without ’em” couple, as well a brilliantly funny rendering of overwrought, egotistical artistic types. The show’s original 1948 production won five Tony awards, including Best Musical.
