Attention: People of all disciplines who may / may not consider themselves painters:
Curator Spencer J. Harrison and The Gladstone Hotel seek expressions of interest and proposals for contemporary projects for its 1st Annual Painting Exhibition, Why the !$# Do You Paint?; Thick & Juicy. This group exhibition will take place from October 18th-November 29th, 2015 at the historic Gladstone Hotel in downtown Toronto.
Why the !$# Do You Paint? is an exhibition that seeks to posit the question to people of multitudes of backgrounds artists, designers, morticians etc. who continue to pursue painting and ask them: Why do you paint? Why do you NEED to paint? If you are asking the same question then this is the show for you. In its 1st year, the subtitled Thick & Juicy invites risk-takers who may not consider themselves artists at all to challenge the limits of what makes a painter through storytelling, narrative and unconventional means. With a total disregard to the deluge of criticism toward painting as a contemporary medium, WT!DYP? will present ideas and/or insights that can be observed and considered through the use of paint while promoting alternative modes of painting to subvert the ideas behind beauty and the aesthetics behind what makes a painting good.
There is no proposal submission fee. Participation Fee $50HST Upon selection, participants will be provided a wall space for their project. In addition, we provide promotional material, a catalog of the exhibit, press and media support.
All participants are required to showcase work that has not previously been exhibited.
