Take a break from your busy life and join the Great Lakes Commons and the Great Lakes Canoe Journey for a few hours of paddling Toronto’s harbour and island.
This is your chance to get a taste of the outdoors without having to leave this modern and Indigenous city. Get to know Toronto from a new perspective that will make you feel closer to your home than ever before.
The mission of the Great Lakes Canoe Journey is to bring together the people that live around the Great Lakes basin through an annual canoe journey to celebrate our relationship to the lakes and our common responsibility to protect and preserve the Great Lakes for future generations.
Sylvia Plain is the founder of the GLCJ and will help orient our group across the harbour, while also talking about her leadership education work with Indigenous youth. The Canoe Journey project uses the craft and the cultural importance of the canoe to Indigenous peoples to strengthen our common responsibilities to water.
Come out and make new friends with fellow paddlers and lovers of water. The day will be filled with sharing stories, laughter, and lots of good food to finish of the day.
