The Regent Theater (Los Angeles, CA)
Syria’s most successful musical export, international singer Omar Souleyman has played everywhere from SXSW to Norway’s Nobel Peace Prize Concert and now he brings his electrifying, globe-trotting dance party to downtown L.A.’s Regent Theatre. Souleyman’s staked his reputation on techno-folk tracks based on the Middle Eastern dance music known as dabke. On his Summer 2015 release Bahdeni Nami, he employed a who’s-who of the hottest electronic producers — from Four Tet to Gilles Peterson to Modeselektor — not to mention traditional instrumentation from his Istanbul home-base. You’ll hear these new tracks and more as Souleyman teams up with his keyboardist partner in crime Rizan Said to keep their ‘beats without borders’ vibe going strong. Bay Area DJ-producers Nick Monaco and Navid Izadi will open and set the party’s tone.
