The Drop: Amy Helm

To stretch a metaphor, the creative storm that produced Didn’t It Rain, Amy Helm’s much-anticiapted debut album, had long been a-rumblin’. In fact, her father — Levon Helm, the legendary lead singer and drummer of The Band — spent the last year of his life producing Didn’t It Rain, his final flourish after cutting three Grammy-winning Americana albums in three years. But the record’s roots reach even farther back — to Amy’s own time with the alt-country collective Ollabelle and a lifetime spent surrounded by American music. Praised by American Songwriter for its confidently eclectic mix of “gospel, swamp, folk, country, pop and lots of soul,” the album features both originals and covers and the work of several special guests. Be there when Amy comes to the Clive Davis Theater for an intimate discussion and performance.
