Woman’s Club of South Pasadena (South Pasadena, CA)
It’s 1926 in Los Angeles and demolition notices are going up around Olvera Street Plaza to make way for the new Union Station. In this original work based on true events from Vineyard Touring Opera, determined single mother Christine Sterling teams up with L.A. Times publisher Harry Chandler to bring positive attention to the area by creating a Mexican cultural hub, thereby delaying demolition and saving the city’s most historic buildings. Olvera Street Opera is the imaginative opera based on the little-known, inspiring story of one woman’s determined efforts to save L.A’s past as it was forging ahead to become one of the world’s great cities.
