Renowned Canadian/British musician, composer, conductor and pianist, Clement Ishmael, currently the World-Wide Music Supervisor of Disney’s The Lion King, presents Poetry In Song, an intimate concert of classic poems set to music, composed by Clement Ishmael and inspired by his latest CD, Poetry in Song (produced and recorded by Dr. John Rutter, Cambridge, England). This concert will feature internationally acclaimed British vocalist/actress, Melanie Marshall (currently starring as “Bertha” in Jane Eyre, at The National Theatre in London, England, and formerly “Funmilayo Kuti” in the London, Broadway and World Tour of Fela!) and Clement Ishmael (piano) with special guests, The Vocal Ensemble of TrypTych Concert and Opera, Lenard Whiting (conductor). The concert will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at 7:30 pm at the Glenn Gould Studio, CBC building, 250 Front Street, Toronto, Ontario. Reception to follow

Wishing to debut his new work in his hometown, Toronto (the city that inspired him and where he began his musical training), Poetry in Song will be the first major concert of his original music and his first concert in Canada, since moving to England.

With his passion for great literature, Clement Ishmael brings to life some of the most inspirational classic poems from our treasured and celebrated authors, through his own unique compositions. The voices of William Shakespeare, Maya Angelou, Walter De La Mare and Paul Dunbar, among others, take on new meaning and life with the pairing of Melanie Marshall’s mesmerizing, warm and rich vocal interpretations and Clement’s distinctive and intuitive musicianship on piano. His music has an exceptional sense of lyric and melody that is Clement’s alone. Described as an “impeccable and sparkling player with a lyric gift,” Clement will leave a lasting impression and be an inspiration to all. Not to be missed! For audiences of all ages.
