The renowned all-women, all-L.A. choir launches its 19th season with a Sonic Awakening, exploring the outer limits of the female voice itself and promising “unfamiliar, unusual, mysterious, surprising vocalisms.” Special guests the Mira Costa High School Advanced Women’s Ensemble joins the always innovative Vox Femina for their latest concert at the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. Now 40 members strong, the chorus is famed for its wide-ranging repertoire of both contemporary and classical music, including everything from Broadway favorites and Canadian mouth music to Hildegard von Bingen’s 12th-century chants, African folk songs and beyond.
