Warner Grand Theatre (San Pedro, CA)
Unless you are planning on taking a trip to a village deep in the Carpathian mountains, you are unlikely to find Hungarian folk dancing as authentic or as lively as the choreography showcased in the latest program from Karpatok Hungarian Folk Ensemble. Retrospect: A Journey Through a Dancer’s Life chronicles the entire span of the Ensemble’s 50-year history, using select pieces to “explain” the group’s evolution from a small band of Hungarian immigrants in 1965 … into today’s acclaimed ambassador for Hungary’s rich cultural heritage. Drawing deeply from all three of the country’s native dance traditions — from Transdanubia, the Hungarian Plains and Transylvania — this diverse program will be accompanied by the beloved Forras Ensemble, proudly known as “the best Hungarian folk band on the West Coast. Get caught up in the amazing moves and fascinating costumes of Retrospect at Warner Grand Theatre.
