In our ongoing commitment to nurture new and emerging photographic talent, we support Ryerson Universitys Image Arts Program and their 4th year Graduate show entitled Maximum Exposure. During portfolio reviews at Max Ex we invite one student with outstanding achievement in photographic arts to exhibit in the gallery.

Akasha Art Projects is proud to open our 2016 exhibition season featuring the winner of that solo exhibition – Locrin Stewart.

Working strictly in analog techniques using orthochromatic films, Stewart manipulates the 20x 24 film to reveal stark B&W and forced mid tones. Exhibiting a combination of traditional silver gelatin photographic images, as well as an evolving film sculpture, Translation refers to aspects of the Transcendental Self.

Vaguely reminiscent of portraits, the elusive nature of personal traits in the imagery is what allows for the stylized translation of the inner self.

Join us for the opening reception of Locrin Stewart's Translation on January 16.

Translation runs January 14-February 6.
