LE Gallery is pleased to announce World of Wonder, an exhibition of new paintings by LE Gallery artist Mitsuo Kimura. Of Japanese background, Kimura arrived in Canada in his late 20s to pursue a career in the North American art scene. Steeped in the traditional techniques and mythos of Japanese history, Kimura looks to combine elements from both his upbringing and the clash of cultures with his arrival and education in Canada. The hand-painted works of incredible intricacy borrow from a fast paced, colourful and high energy anime and cartoon lineage while speaking to the concerns of the contemporary art world. Issues of assimilation, language and sexuality are all viewed through the unique lens of Kimuras experience. World of Wonder considers the psychological impact of the 2011 Tsunami that hit Japan in relation to the largesse of natural elements; land, sky, wind and water. Distance and longing also play a role in understanding the conflicts observed and interrogated by Kimura.
LE focuses on the promotion and exposure of emerging artists in critical contemporary practice.
