More than one hundred women of Toronto’s musical theatre scene including Susan Cuthbert and Erica Peck, are coming together as part of the inaugural Women of Musical Theatre Festival from July 15 to 18, 2016 at The Arts & Letters Club in Toronto.
“With this festival, we are determined to shine the brightest light on the incredible female talent residing in our city and in this genre, past and present.”- Marion Abbott Festival Creator/ Executive Director
The first of its kind in North America, the four-day festival includes a panel discussion featuring notable women in Toronto musical theatre and performances of musicals written and composed by women: “The Secret Garden”; “Misprint”, a new musical written by Canadian Lauren Toffan; and “I’m Getting My Act Together and Taking It On The Road” written by Gretchen Moyer and Nancy Cryer, a show that was very controversial in it's time. The festival will also feature two all-female cabarets of musical theatre classics. It will be taking place at The Arts & Letters Club, one of the oldest cultural hubs in the city.
