The Toronto Poetry and Rock Collective is less about genre and more about an idea; the idea that good art deserves to be celebrated and that Toronto needs more radical spaces to do that in.
Catch us for Round 2 of our experiment at Duffys Tavern where we will get together to hear three poets and two musical acts share their greatest truths.
We've got an exilirating line up for the night!
In the Poetry Corner we've got:
Rafay Ansari – http://TheTribeOfAnsar.bandcamp.com/
Rafay Ansari is a 25 year old Hip-Hop poet, hailing from Windsor, Ontario and currently residing in Cambridge. In his writings, he touches upon his personal views of reality, world issues, spirituality and social "norms". His adoration of life and love of learning is uniquely resonant in all of his work.
In 2013 he released his first solo Hip-Hop CD entitled "FreeJason". In January of 2015 he released his very first poetry chapbook, as well his first spoken word album.
He aims to inspire the youth to utilize their creative potential, and find new outlets and perspectives through Hip-Hop and Spoken Word. Rafay plans to continue his works through rhyme & rhythm, as well as continue to grow with the artists around him.
Tasha Receno

yes, or estefania for those who reject stage names, is a local organizer and poet who is super rad(ical). she has a national championship under her belt and a chapbook where she complains about stephen harper that she wears is still relevant. yes is here to fuck shit up, and she hopes that you are too
In the Musical Corner we've got:
The Sleeperz – www.thesleeperz.com
Having performed at some of the most legendary venues in Toronto, this blues inspired rock band is working hard to make a name for themselves in the Toronto music scene, with much bigger aspirations on the horizon. Formed in early 2014 and fresh off their first independently released EP, with the help of a televised live performance and interview, The Sleeperz have already accomplished some of the milestones they had hoped to achieve in a relatively short period of time. With their fresh nostalgic sound, knowledge of the music industry, sheer determination and commitment, The Sleeperz are blazing a trail with no intention on looking back.
Aria Eden https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMHGXGNEFFwEKasoq0UXKRA
Singer/songwriter from Toronto, Ontario. Aria Eden’s sound can be understood as earth meets city relying on organic instruments and sounds with contemporary elements to produce a fusion of soul and R&B. Aria Eden has recently began performing original material on the Toronto music scene at the Dakota Tavern, the Burdock and was featured during Canadian songwriters week at the Rivoli. She is a firm believer in the healing power of creative expression and its ability to break barriers and build solidarity. She is grateful to be apart of this music and poetry series and for supportive spaces that allow artists to be vulnerable and share lived experiences.
