A violent sexual offender was arrested by Nanaimo RCMP Saturday night, less than 24 hours after arriving in Nanaimo.

Randolph Frank LANFERMAN, age 43, was arrested Saturday April 30th at 9:05 PM without incident, by Nanaimo RCMP officers. He was walking along Highway 1 approximately 8 kilometers south of Nanaimo at the time of his arrest. LANFERMAN was later remanded into custody and will be making an appearance in Nanaimo Provincial court today.

As part of his release conditions, LANFERMAN was required to reside at the New Hope Center on Nicol St and to abide by a curfew of 9 PM daily.

“Plainclothes officers assigned to monitor his activities made the decision to arrest him as it was obvious to them he was not intent on meeting his curfew or returning to the Center that evening, “said Constable Gary O’Brien, media spokesperson for the Nanaimo RCMP.

LANFERMAN was released from Matsqui penitentiary after serving a 3 year, four month sentence for break and enter. He was considered a high risk to re-offend and poised a significant risk to the public and therefore a Section 810.2 Peace Bond was imposed upon him with strict conditions.
