Highways 1 and 41 re-open in Alberta, Highway 1 still closed in Saskatchewan

Medicine Hat… Motorists are advised that heavy rain and flooding continues to disrupt highway travel in southeast Alberta and southwest Saskatchewan.

In Alberta, Highway 1 is now open to local traffic only between Medicine Hat and Walsh. One eastbound section of Highway 1 near Walsh is still under water and vehicles are being diverted onto the westbound lanes.

Local traffic that needs to cross the Saskatchewan border on Highway 1 eastbound, such as livestock owners, may contact the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure at 306-630-4246. Ministry staff will try to accommodate them.

Highway 1 remains closed to interprovincial traffic at this time. Motorists wishing to continue eastbound into Saskatchewan are being detoured onto northbound Highway 41 to eastbound Highway 9 that connects to Saskatchewan Highway 7. Motorists wishing to continue westbound into Alberta are being detoured northbound onto Saskatchewan Highway 4 to westbound Highway 7 that connects to Alberta Highway 9.

Highway 41 is now open from its junction with Highway 1 near Irvine to the United States border at Wild Horse. Two sections of the highway are down to single-lane traffic and are being controlled through signs and/or flag people.

Further advisories will be issued as conditions change.
