This Friday, the 5th of September, the Prime Minister celebrated Teachers Day and addressed the nation while stressing on the importance of education. While answering a question by a student he said that he had never thought that he would become the Prime Minister of India. “I never fought any election in my class or university. So, I had never thought I will be the PM. But I had Dreams of doing something, achieving something. I urge students to dream of doing something,” said Modi.
The Prime Minister kept it short and sweet while addressing numerous students on this occasion. “It is rather sad that not many students today want to take up teaching as a profession. Teachers are very important in any society and they make a big impact on a student’s life, their role perhaps only next to the parents. The value of a teacher has eroded over time, and we need to restore their importance,” he said.
He further stressed on the need of good teachers all over the world. “There is a great demand for good teachers in the world, but the supply falls short. India is a young country, why can’t we give the promise that India will provide good teachers to the world? Our students should say that ,’Yes I will be a teacher’.” He also added that children should realize there’s a world beyond books, TV and computers and should step outside and sweat it out.
