Vintage Sport and Leisure Limited (VSL), owners and operators of the international Golden Oldies Sporting Festivals concept, today announced that the inaugural Golden Oldies World Football Festival will be held in Adelaide, South Australia, in October 2016.

Peter McDermott Managing Director of VSL stated, “We are inviting the world to assemble for the beautiful game to be held in Adelaide,, Australia 2016”.

We are excited to add Football (Soccer) as the latest addition to VSL’s stable of events that include rugby, cricket, netball, hockey, softball and golf, said McDermott.

The Golden Oldies Motto is “Let Your Love of the Game Take You Places” and to date over 37 cities worldwide have hosted Golden Oldies Festivals since the inception of Golden Oldies in 1979.   Festivals take place every two years in exciting destinations around the world. 

The first Golden Oldies Festival was held in Auckland, New Zealand in 1979 when 15 rugby teams assembled for the inaugural festival in rugby. Subsequently Golden Oldies has grown into a significant and recognised sporting movement for players, supporters and officials in the over 35 age bracket.

The vibrant city of Adelaide’s successful hosting of Golden Oldies Festivals included netball in 1998, rugby 1999, hockey 2009 and cricket in 2012.
