The Toronto Reelworld movie festival created by visionary Ms. Tonya Lee Williams in 2001, to promote budding movie actors, directors, musicians, composers, producers and all those associated with the film and music video world just concluded its tenth triumphant year. At this fabulous event many South Asian artists had submitted their work and two were recognised as winners. 1999, a full length feature film, offering a rare insider’s perspective on the wave of gang violence that shook the Tamil community in Toronto in the 1990s won the CBC audience choice award for best movie. Ms. Lalita Krishna won the Reelworld’s Trailblazer award recognizing her intense work in documentaries. Another movie submission “Shanti Baba Ram and the dancers of hope”, with the music score written by Vikas Kohli and its dance sequence choreographed by Aamer Zuberi, was selected to air on CBC. Several musicians’ videos were also screened, including well known Bilz and Kashif, Bagashree Vaze, Jsin and Delhi 2 Dublin’s psychedelic treat!
