SPLM Deputy Secretary General Dr Ann Itto received the donation that will help support basic education in South Sudan.

Zhiguo explained that the donation is aimed at supporting the education sector in the infant nation ranked with illiteracy levels estimated to be over 70 per cent.

He said the donation is also a help from the Chinese people as part of their contribution to the building of South Sudan in the areas of health and education as well as economic development.

The donation cements the relationship between the Chinese governing Communist Party and SPLM.

Dr Itto said that the Chinese had invited several SPLM cadres in the last two years in a bid to cement active relations between the two parties.

“I would like take this opportunity and say that, the Chinese government attaches great relations to South Sudan and has the interest to push South Sudan in all areas of development,” Zhiguo said.

Meanwhile Itto emphasised the role China has played on the South Sudan economy especially in the oil sector.

She noted that China is the leading dealer in the South Sudan oil production adding that more support especially on cultural exchange is needed especially investing in sponsoring the South Sudanese children to study abroad and gain a diverse mind of thinking and reasoning.

Xing Hu, Managing Director of ZTE, the company that donated the materials explained to Gurtong that the stationeries included ball point pens, pen nib, auto-pencil and lead, eraser, rulers and note books.

Geri Bullen, a teacher from Gudele West Basic School expressed happiness and thanked the Chinese government and SPLM in supporting the pupils with basic school requirements.

The Minister of General Education said early this year that fighting illiteracy in South Sudan needed collective responsibility and called on government institutions to contribute in curbing the high illiteracy rate in the country.
