According to the Director in the ministry of Gender and Children Welfare Abuk Gabriel Aluong, the ministry has conducted a workshop covering three counties to discuss gender-based violence in Jonglei State.
Aluong said that the workshop was for the stakeholders to get connected with the community as there are many cases of child abuse in the area.
“The project is going to run for one year, so we will be running so many workshops across Bor, Pibor and Twic-East County those are the selected counties. We will be running similar workshops for about five days,” said Hiram Kiongo, the Gender and Protection Advisor at NHDF.
The project is expected to create awareness in the community about the dangers of using violence against children and also a addressing the dropping of girls out of school due to forceful early marriage.
“In Jonglei state rape, earlier marriage and force marriage are very high and that is why we come up with this program so that we can educate the community about how these thing affect the society and well being of the community, the future of the people, the health of the girls and the boys,” Kiongo said.
Aluong said that they are trying the project to see if it will be helpful before extending to other counties in the state.
