An online petition seeking restoration of BBC Top Gear presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, has attracted more than 350,000 signatories after he was suspended, and the show was put on hold, for allegedly trying to hit one of the producers at the end of filming in Newcastle.
According to Daily Mirror, the producer involved in what the BBC called a “fracas” was 36-year-old Oisin Tymon. It quotes a source alleging that Clarkson “snapped” when he discovered no food had been laid on. At the time of incident, Clarkson and his fellow presenters and crew were believed to be staying at Simonstone Hall Hotel in Hawes, North Yorkshire. A BBC spokesperson explained that “following a fracas with a BBC producer, Jeremy Clarkson has been suspended pending an investigation. No one else has been suspended. Top Gear will not be broadcast this Sunday. The BBC will be making no further comment at this time.”
Furthermore, sources claim that Clarkson’s Top Gear contract is also set to expire at the end of the month, which would make it easier for the BBC to bid farewell to him if it wishes to. The online petition circulating on Change.org was published by the social-media hashtag #BringBackClarkson by right-wing blogger Guido Fawkes. The presenter’s daughter, Em Clarkson, posted on twitter: “Oh God, BBC please take him back… he’s started cooking…” and his co-presenter, James May, also mentioned on twitter few hours after the suspension that: “no Top Gear this weekend, apparently. How about [the film] 633 Squadron instead?”
