Madhur Bhandarkar, who has a penchant for realistic cinema, is all now set for a period film inspired by real life incidents. Earlier, we had reported that the filmmaker is toying with the idea of making a film on the Emergency period. The latest update on the film is that Neil Nitin Mukesh has been signed for the film.

The film, which has been tentatively titled Indu Sarkar, is inspired by the Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister (late) Indira Gandhi. Neil Nitin Mukesh plays the role of late) Indira Gandhi’s son Sanjay Gandhi. The said film focuses on the journey of a poetess, who from a stammering and under confident girl finds the courage to rediscover herself and rebel against the system. The lead role is played by Kirti Kulhari.

Talking about the film, while Madhur Bhandarkar did not divulge whether the film was related to the Gandhi family, but, he maintained that the film has elements of fiction weaved around the incidents that happened between 1975 and 1977. From what we hear, Madhur Bhandarkar has been doing extensive research like reading up books on Sanjay Gandhi, meeting veteran journalists etc.

Indu Sarkar may go on floor in December and is said to be extensively shot in Karjat where Delhi will apparently be recreated.
