We all know that most of the films go through many changes during its making, from scripts to casting. Actors are replaced, scripts are polished, dialogues are changed and after passing through several such refining stages, a film is made. And when you talk about cults that today have a special place in our hearts, one film that pops up is Munnabhai MBBS.

And besides Sanjay Dutt if there was one character that was etched in our minds, it is that of Dr. Asthana. The life of the strict dean of the college goes upside down, after an emotional and kind hearted gangster enters their lives and changes everything. However, what if we tell you that Boman Irani wouldn’t have been Asthana had Amrish Puri signed the film? Yes, recently we heard that the original choice for the film was our very own favourite villain Amrish Puri.

Undoubtedly, Amrish Puri is the quintessential villain and after his impactful Mogambo, we would have loved to see him pitted against the gangster Sanjay Dutt. However, the actor had turned down the role and after auditions, it went to Boman. In fact, Rajkumar Hirani initially wasn’t completed convinced with the idea but when he saw the look test of the actor, he was convinced.

Ever since then, the Rajkumar Hirani and Boman connection has been inseparable. In fact, even in Hirani’s last film PK, the actor is seen playing a small yet important role (for the uninitiated, he plays the role of Anushka Sharma’s boss). Rajkumar and Boman recently appeared together on the chat show ‘Yaaron Ki Baarat’ that celebrates off screen camaraderie and friendship between Bollywood celebrities, hosted by Riteish Deshmukh and Sajid Khan.
